In this, our 10th year of operating as Assemble, we have kicked off our largest project yet. The Fitzroy Gasworks project is a two-stage project which will deliver more than 1000 new homes.

Last week marked a significant moment, with Assemble and project partners coming together to celebrate the commencement of construction on Parcel B, which will deliver 513 long-term rental homes in the heart of inner-north Melbourne, including 164 social and affordable homes.

Joined by the Honourable Jaclyn Symes MP, Treasurer of Victoria and Minister for Development Victoria and Precincts, and representatives of all project partners, the occasion was held at the Bundha Sports Centre, a state-of-the-art community hub that is an important part of the precinct's transformation led by Development Victoria from vacant public land into a thriving, mixed-tenure neighbourhood.

This project demonstrates that when state and federal government, institutional capital, the community housing sector and industry align around a shared purpose, you can deliver the housing Australia needs, at scale, pace and in the right locations.

"Today's construction commencement means we are in the ground and on our way to delivering 513 new long-term social, affordable and market rental homes at Fitzroy Gasworks. This project demonstrates that when state and federal government, institutional capital, the community housing sector and industry align around a shared purpose, you can deliver the housing Australia needs, at scale, pace and in the right locations," said Kris Daff, Managing Director, Assemble.

With investment from capital partners AustralianSuper and HESTA and delivered and managed through an expanding portfolio partnership between Assemble and tier-one community housing provider Housing Choices Australia and specialist community housing provider Aboriginal Housing Victoria, Parcel B will deliver 513 long-term rental homes across a mix of social, affordable and market tenures. Of those, 121 will be social homes and 43 affordable rental homes, with 10 per cent of social homes prioritised for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Operating since 2016, Assemble’s current national footprint is over 8,000 homes, including more than 4,000 social and affordable homes. Today's milestone brings it closer to its goal of delivering 17,000 homes by 2034, delivered in partnership with institutional capital, government, industry and the community housing sector.
